Identity: What’s in your core being? Who do you resemble? What makes you who you are? Who do you believe you are?
For many of us, development of identity can be a very lengthy if not lifelong process. I submit, that if we do not know who we are, it is impossible to fulfill our purpose.
What informs your sense of identity? For me, I have to look at the Bible to get a picture of my Creator. I read in there that He created man and woman in His image. The Bible uses what might be termed personified imagery for the only true and powerful deity. But what if we stopped looking at ourselves and then trying to figure out God and instead read about and experience who He is so that when we look at our reflection and our actions we can see how much we resemble Him?
In the church, we always talk about how we are His hands and His feet and in the Aaronic blessing it discusses God making His face to shine upon us. The Word also says that He breathed life into man when He created Adam, that we are the apple of His eye, He upholds us with His righteous right hand and on and on the examples go.
I believe our actual physical structure as well as how our character and mentality are designed to be, are reflective of how God Himself is. The unfortunate thing is that it’s so easy to believe the lies that are whispered in our ears about who we are. When we believe the lies, it changes not only how we see ourselves but how we conduct ourselves and in turn how other people perceive us.
I believe the Lord would challenge us today to trust what He has written about us and to listen to what He whispers in the quiet place when we are alone with Him, the Only One who truly knows and understands us even better than we know and understand ourselves.
Identity is one of the keys to unlock your destiny!
